Investigative Assistant I

Overview:
In support of the Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service, the employee serves as an investigative assistant, providing investigative support, management, and operational assistance to specials agents of the Diplomatic Security Service. Under the supervisor of the Branch Chief, the employee receives and reviews requests for investigative assistance from local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Once received, the employee coordinates with Diplomatic Security special agents both domestic and abroad in an effort to obtain support for U.S. law enforcement initiatives and investigations. The position is face paced requiring a high degree of flexibility and effective coordination in support of operations
Primary Responsibilities:
Work with Program agents and staff to complete investigative requests made by outside law enforcement agencies
Coordinate with local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies in support of criminal investigations that require DS assistance
Conduct a wide array of database checks and case management
Research, gather investigative data, assemble/compile information for agents use in investigations
Draft Reports of Investigation and Case Synopsis
Compile reports or provide briefings on the performance statistics and progress of cases
Perform a variety of administrative duties to support geographically-remote agents, including routing electronic messages, record checks, obtain international country clearances, travel arrangements, schedule training, or other duties
Assist in the research, preparation, coordination, delivery and follow-up actions on all program operations
Prepare charts, tables, graphs, and diagrams to assist in tracking and reporting program activities
Oversee DSSs Most Wanted Program, and manage DSS Most Wanted programs website
Coordinate all DSS Most Wanted fugitive submissions with relative DS Field Office for inclusion on the website
Assist in accomplishing case research and trial preparation
Study issues and recommend approaches to correct deficiencies or enhance program operations
Provide research services and advise office personnel on national and international security developments
Utilize personally developed contacts from other law enforcement agencies or other departments to obtain the required information
Work independently, with oversight, to advise and assist office personnel on matters of policy, procedures, and regulations
Supervisory Responsibilities:
There are no supervisory duties.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in an operations, law enforcement, or administrative support capacity
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
U.S. Citizenship;
A TOP SECRET security clearance is required for this position; however, the individual may begin work with an interim Secret security clearance.
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, handle high pressure situations, and successfully track several concurrent deadline-sensitive projects under stressful conditions is required
Experience drafting and editing US government reports and documents
Capability of appropriate handling of sensitive, restricted, and classified information requires a high degree of discretion, maturity, and professional reliability
Effective communication skills, reading comprehension, and the ability to produce clear, concise, and professional written products are required
A qualified typist is required with a proficiency in the Microsoft Suite
Must have excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently with little supervision or as a member of the joint-agency team
Understanding of the criminal justice system, U.S. courts, and the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure is useful
Competency with law enforcement computer systems, and/or other technology tools used in relation to U.S. border security, is desirable
Knowledge and familiarity with security policy review and research
Knowledge of investigations, inspections, security program reviews, development, and implementation
Familiarity with crime trends and laws related to passport and visa crime is favorable
Comprehension of government operations, international affairs, world events, and the principles of national security
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid drivers license, U.S. citizenship, and Secret clearance are required.
Security Clearance:
SECRET Level Required
Must have a current US Government SECRET Personnel Security Clearance or be able to successfully complete a U.S. government administered Investigation.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must also be able to maintain a US Government SECRET clearance.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands that will be required inside the work place and for the position. Must lift, will sit, answer the phone, type on a keyboard, move files, etc.
Travel:
Travel may be required.
Work Environment:
