Senior Principal Systems Development Engineer

What you’ll achieve

The position provides the opportunity for developing sophisticated storage subsystems and server infrastructure solutions, setting the technical and design direction for Dell’s Embedded Server Storage team, and responsibility for its implementation into the enterprise server portfolio.

The successful candidate can engage in all aspects of the development process, including architecture and design, process improvement, test strategy, manufacturing, fault isolation and resolution of development and field issues.

This is a senior technical development team role that requires strong verbal and written communication; understanding and defining complex system/solution architectures; and demonstrating engineering expertise and rigor through debug of complex issues for enterprise solutions.

You will:

  • Involvement in architecture definition, design, and integration of new innovative storage and server infrastructure solutions for Dell’s enterprise servers
  • Develop and review of test strategies for embedded software running on PCIe switches in complex ecosystems. Debug and drive complex product issues to closure with true root cause and a strong sense of urgency and ownership
  • Partner and work across organizations and sites worldwide to ensure success in the business
  • Communicate status cross-functionally and externally, and to all levels of upper management. Exert influence cross-functionally to meet goals and support the team
  • Work with suppliers to meet technical deliverables and provide intuitive and innovative solutions. Provide technical leadership for the engineering team throughout the product lifecycle, setting technical standards for the team, and providing technical mentorship for the less experienced members of the team

Essential Requirements

  • BS or MS Engineering degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with 12+ years relevant experience.
  • Architecture, design and product development experience with enterprise server and storage products. Strong debugging skills and the ability to drive complex technical issues to root cause. Strong working knowledge of PCIe infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of key storage concepts such as SAS/SATA and NVMe. Working knowledge of key system level concepts such as PCIe VDM and I2C
  • Solution level knowledge of firmware, device drivers and server storage management strategies. Ability to operate and debug using protocol analyzers. Strong embedded systems understanding
  • Ability to identify potential product weakness and provide design guidance and recommendations for improvements to subsequent redesigns. Ability to write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, test strategies, and documentation


Desirable Requirements

  • UEFI, Windows, VMWare, and Linux OS debug skills 
  • Experience with virtual environments (VMs)
  • Prior experience with high availability storage subsystems
  • The position is not a programming role, although solid concepts of high-level programming languages (C/C++ and Python) is recommended

Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.  The base salary range for this position:  177,000.00 to $206,850.00
