Color, Material and Finish Engineering Technologist

What you’ll achieve

You will be part of a growing team of technical subject matter experts who are passionate about driving technology incubations enhancing the customer experience. In this role you are part of a global interdisciplinary design and technology organization where you will be collaborating with teammates, product engineering, marketing, corporate sustainability and other critical stakeholders.  We are looking for a candidate with a passion for technology, an open mind, and a desire to continuously learn new things.  The primary focus of this role is to develop data driven strategies and decision making guiding our technology roadmaps.  Come help us make a difference driving solutions which enhancing the design of our products, the possibilities are endless.


You will:

  • Influence ID/CMF decisions during early product concept phase at a material and part design level. Define approved solutions based on the product design and the technology capability.

  • Develop and own technology roadmap for metal forming incubations for materials such as Aluminum, magnesium and steel for 3-4 yrs out enabling design objectives.

  • Lead technology incubations as required by the molding technology roadmap. Conduct NUDD investigations as required to meet design objectives during concept phase.

  • Create strategic engagements with our external technology suppliers and partners. Able to influence their technology roadmaps to align with DELL's objectives.

  • Define production requirements and specifications for formed metal and machined parts.

Essential Requirements

  • 15+ yrs experience, plus a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Metallurgy or related field.

  • Mastery of metal forming processes, such as stamping, forging etc. plus tooling design knowledge related to each process.

  • Expert in metal part design and what processes are capable of achieving from tolerance perspective and an understanding of the properties and behaviors of different metals and alloys

  • Able to partner with counterparts in the design team to achieve the design direction within the processes capability.

  • Understanding of the properties and behaviors of different metals and alloys

Desirable Requirements

  • Knowledgeable in CNC machining process, with experience designing parts and creating machine toolpaths

  • Proven track record bringing new technologies from idea to reality

Compensation

Dell is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this position is $216,750 - $280,000.
