Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant (PA) to join our high-acuity Cardiac Surgery ICU (CVSICU) team. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to provide expert care for critically ill patients in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex cardiac surgical patients, contributing to a dynamic and impactful role in the ICU.

Schedule:
• 50/50 Day/Off Shifts
• Includes weekends, nights, and holidays

Responsibilities:
• Work as part of a collaborative healthcare team to assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients in the Cardiac Surgery ICU, providing patient-centered, evidence-based care.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and adjust plans as needed based on patient responses and evolving clinical status.
• Perform essential invasive procedures, including central line placement, arterial line insertion, chest tube placement, and other critical procedures as required.
• Provide education, counseling, and support to patients and families, helping them understand their medical conditions, treatment options, and discharge plans.
• Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and improving care delivery in the ICU setting.
• Engage in research projects focused on advancing clinical practices and outcomes in the CVSICU.
• Work closely with attending physicians, intensivists, and other healthcare providers to ensure timely and effective care for patients.
• Assist in the training and mentorship of new staff, including residents and fellows, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
• Stay current with the latest developments in cardiovascular care and critical care medicine, contributing to the ongoing growth of the team.

Requirements:
• Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of Maryland.
• Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA).
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in critical care, preferably in a cardiovascular surgical ICU or similar high-acuity environment.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make independent, evidence-based decisions in a fast-paced setting.
• Proficiency in performing invasive procedures, including central lines, arterial lines, and chest tubes, or the willingness to develop these skills with training.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• A commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
• A strong desire to engage in continuous professional development and contribute to improving patient care outcomes.
