POSITION SUMMARY:

Reports to the CVIL Administrator for operations and the Clinical Medical Directors for professional standards, and is responsible for managing the daily activities of the Cardiovascular Division of Cardiology. Working through subordinate professional, technical, clerical and maintenance personnel, ensures the prompt and efficient care of patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures. Coordinates and directs the Cardiovascular training program.

COMPETENCIES:

Education: Extensive training in Radiology Technologist such as that normally acquired upon the completion of an AMA approved in Radiologic Technology, which includes one year of cardiovascular techniques and principles. Bachelor’s degree in business related field required.

Knowledge: A comprehensive knowledge and a high level of proficiency in cardiovascular procedures is required in this position for directing high level professionals and monitoring overall operations of division. This level of proficiency would be gained after three to five years of more responsible related experience in cardiovascular techniques and personnel supervision.

Skills: Analytical ability required for budget preparation, for analyzing and developing department plans of operation, department construction planning, and staff evaluations.

Substantial interpersonal skills required for frequent internal and external communications with radiology administrators, lecturing students, and arranging training programs in principles and practices of Cardiovascular.

Directs staff of technical and clerical employees and lower classified supervisory staff. Ensures compliance with requisites of regulatory agencies.

Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: Requires ARRT and CPR certification. Also requires RCIS or CIT advanced training. Current certification in Maryland by The Board of Physician Quality Assurance.

Work Experience: Requires three years of experience as Cardiovascular Technologist and 3-5 years with leadership and/or management responsibilities.

DIMENSIONS:

  1. Budget Responsibility: Projects anticipated volume and demand for resources; conducts cost analysis; analyzes and monitors budget reports and variances; evaluates human and material resource utilization and makes necessary changes or recommendations; collaborates with finance and other business personnel to develop program plans.

  2. Authority/Decision Making Level: 24 hour accountability and authority for decisions regarding patient care, unit operations, and personnel management for designated unit(s).

  3. Supervisory Responsibility: Directs and implements counseling, discipline, and performance management of unit staff. Monitors unit-affiliated staff compliance to customer service standards.

PROBLEM SOLVING: Uses a systems approach to identify and analyze clinical, financial, personnel, and operational issues and implements corrective action.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: Analyzes complex data sets to improve patient flow, financial, and process outcomes.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, pharmacologic agents, and levels of ionizing radiation. Work requires standing for extended periods of time and transporting patients and/or equipment from one location to another.

Work requires lifting, positioning, assisting and/or providing restraining of patients experiencing loss of control.
