Summary

CHS  has an exciting opportunity in our Global Grains and Processing Division. We are looking for a Stevedore at our Myrtle Grove Grain Terminal. 

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for loading grain into the holds of seagoing vessels using spout loaders. Safely operate grain groomers within ship holds, ensuring cargo is leveled and properly distributed. Operate telehandlers to position gangways and move materials as required for vessel operations.
  • Coordinate the flow of grain to spout loaders by communicating with vessel loader operators via radio.
  • Ensure the correct positioning of spout loaders in the appropriate holds for seamless operations.
  • Continuously monitor grain flow and assess the status of cargo within the ship holds to prevent overflow or mismanagement.
  • Provide training and assistance to new team members, as well as lead more skilled and experienced teams and crews.
  • Clearly receive and relay instructions related to cargo loading, including understanding the type of cargo, its destination, and any special handling requirements. Maintain effective communication with the ship crew to ensure all parties are aligned on operational tasks, helping to prevent accidents and enhance efficiency. Foster clear and precise communication to ensure cargo is handled safely and meets operational standards.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of documented standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reduce product variation and increase inter-shift and inter-departmental operating consensus.
  • Monitor production and quality, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain reports of key production variables such as production volume, yield, plant uptime and utility consumption on a timely basis.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas. Diagnose and trouble-shoot maintenance related issues.
  • Cultivate and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • 3+ years of experience in Operations and/or Production Operations

Additional Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a structured team environment
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to lead effectively, and influence others  
  • High School diploma or GED preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
