As a Data Analyst within the Optum Alabama Enterprise Data Services (EDS) team, you will be responsible for collaborating with the analytic business users to produce reports and develop analytics in an accurate and timely fashion to support their need to have the information and confidence  to make crucial business decisions while being supported by a wider team of Data Architects, ETL developers, BI Report Developers and other analysts.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide qualitative program and data analyses
  • Design, build, and maintain business rules and logic pertaining to data processing and reporting
  • Support data processing, preexisting reporting, applications and customer facing reports, dashboards and analytics
  • Collaborate with DBA/s to create database views for end users utilizing reporting platforms such as Power BI or any other reporting tools
  • Validate new or enhanced technical development and implementation and work closely with Quality Assurance Engineers to achieve quality and accuracy
  • Identify and document issues, patterns, and gaps in the data and/or system(s)
  • Demonstrate data literacy and be resourceful in terms of understanding Medicaid Eligibility, Claims Processing, Federal reporting, Quality measures, Gap closures etc
  • Learn about the Optum and Agency products, share ideas and be able to train, mentor and influence other team members

Required Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of healthcare payer data analysis experience with one or more of the following: Medicaid data, Medicare data, Healthcare Exchange data or Commercial payer data
  • 2+ years gathering reporting requirements and creating design specifications 
  • 2+ years developing complex reports in Power BI and other reporting platforms such as Tableau
  • 1+ years of experience explaining complex data analysis results to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience in data analysis initiatives to support reporting and analytics
  • Experience working with relational data and SQL programming (SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, Snowflake or similar databases)
  • Experience communicating data analysis results, including trends and opportunities, both verbally and in written form, to clients and colleagues
  • Experience with the software development life cycle (i.e. Business Requirements, Technical Documentation, Quality Assurance)
  • Experience communicating data analysis results, including trends and opportunities, both verbally and in written form, to clients and colleagues
  • Proven ability to perform data investigation, reverse engineering of program logic, and new development while adhering to development standards and good change control practice
  • Proven ability to develop and manage multiple projects with minimal direction and supervision
  • Local to Montgomery, AL or willing to relocate to Montgomery, AL with the ability to go into the office 5 days a week (M-F)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced or higher level of proficiency in SQL programming, data analysis and data management
  • Solid working knowledge of change, incident, and project management procedures and best practices
  • Knowledge of state federal reporting requirements for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)
  • Proven to be self-guided in terms of understating data in physical tables or views, and ability to create/ enhance stored procedures or functions pertaining to report feeds, or any input/output
