Job Summary: 

 

The Staff Pad is seeking a dedicated PRN Phlebotomist to join the team at Blue Ridge Medical Center. The PRN Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing specimen collection on patients of all ages served by the hospital. This role involves utilizing the laboratory information system to document specimen collection information, order tests, and assess medical necessity. Additionally, the PRN Phlebotomist may transport specimens to testing areas and ensure that samples are correctly labeled and meet acceptance criteria. An important aspect of the role is to provide clear and thorough collection instructions to patients for any specimens they are required to collect. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Perform venipuncture and specimen collection on patients of all ages in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner. 
  • Utilize the laboratory information system to document all pertinent details related to specimen collection and testing orders. 
  • Ensure appropriate labeling and acceptability of samples prior to transport to testing areas. 
  • Provide patients with clear and comprehensive instructions for specimen collection, ensuring a positive patient experience. 
  • Work collaboratively with healthcare team members to deliver high-quality patient care. 
  • Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to workflow changes and varying work locations as needed. 

 

Knowledge/Experience: 

  • High school diploma or GED preferred. 
  • Clinical understanding of physiology and anatomy is beneficial. 
  • Prior experience as a clinical phlebotomist preferred. 

 

Education: 

  • Training from an accredited phlebotomy program is preferred. 
  • College coursework in clinically relevant fields such as medical technology, anatomy, or patient care focused courses is advantageous. 

 

License/Certification/Registry: 

  • Certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) is preferred.
