Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled scientist with deep expertise in the application of biophysical methods in drug discovery to join the Structural Biology organization within Takeda’s Global Biologics organization. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in multiple biophysical techniques apply this expertise towards understanding and optimizing small molecule-protein and protein-protein interactions as well as biologics developability. A successful candidate will contribute to multiple programs by generating results from internal and external (CRO-based) biophysics efforts and effectively collaborating with structural biologists, protein chemists, biophysics experts, project team members and department managment to advance Takeda’s the research pipeline.
The successful candidate will:
- Serve as a subject matter expert for biophysics for Structural Biology and Global Biologics, applying knowledge and insights for small molecule binding and optimization, antigen activity validation and biologics developability assessment
- Design, execute, and analyze critical experiments using a variety of biophysical methods (SPR, ITC, DLS, DSF, etc) with a high level of independence and collaboration to support hit validation, lead optimization, mechanism of inhibition studies, epitope mapping, biologic development tractability and structural biology enablement for small molecule and / or biologics drug discovery
- Collaborate and effectively communicate biophysical information and results to a variety of audiences in multiple settings including biophysical experts across departments, colleagues within Structural Biology and Global Biologics, diverse project teams and department / research management
- Maintain internal databases with latest results and contribute to improvements to LIMS systems for biophysical data
- Oversee activities at partner CROs producing biophysical data
Interested candidates should have:
- PhD or equivalent experience in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Bioanalytical Chemistry or a closely related field
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience of laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical industry using biophysical methods to advance drug discovery programs and accellerate timelines; candidates with MS with 14+ or BS with 12+ years of experience also considered.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with varied biophysical techniques (SPR, DSF, DLS ITC, MST, NMR, etc)
- Experience with both biologics and small molecule therapeutic molecules highly desirable, including application of biophysical techniques to biologics development
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-driven environment with a collaborative and proactive attitude; effectively communicate complex information to broad and varied audiences
- Experience with outsourcing and / or high-throughput automation systems desirable
- A track record of innovation and scientific rigor across multiple protein targets and superfamilies, including challenging protein classes for biophysics (ie, protein complexes, membrane proteins, targets with multiple substrates, etc)

$149,100.00 - $234,300.00The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/or long-termincentives.
