Construction Auditor 

Are you an experienced Construction Auditor?

We at Jefferson Wells are hiring Construction Auditors for our NYC Construction Audit Risk Practice. This practice operates on behalf of our clients (i.e. the owners) to assist them through the planning, construction, and project completion phases of their major capital projects. With our support, the clients risks related to cost overruns and litigation is reduced and their construction and/or major capital project is delivered on time and within budget. As a member of such practice, you would be responsible for performing audits throughout the life cycle of a construction project and regularly interact with management, internal business project leaders and outside vendors to discuss and resolve issues and recommend improved business practices. 

 

Essential Job Function includes but is not limited to: 

Plan and perform audits to confirm internal compliance with approved policies and procedures. 

Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of management controls. 

Identify actual and potential overpayments, overcharges, failures to recoup reimbursable expenses. 

Identify controls and business risks for audits and identify project efficiencies. 

Participate in design of audit plans, coordinate and conduct audits and report results to management. 

Furnish analysis, recommendations, counsel, and information to management concerning activities reviewed. 

Conduct follow-up meetings to review and evaluate the adequacy of management responses to identified audit issues. 

Facilitate and assist the efforts of external auditors and consultants. 

Identify opportunities for reducing construction costs or improving processes. 

 

Required Skills & Experience: 

BA/BS - degree in Accounting or Finance 

Minimum of 3+ years of internal audit, public accounting audit or government/compliance related experience. 

Preferred industry experience: Construction, Manufacturing, Government Contracting, Government Construction, Professional Services 

Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles/standards (Institute of Internal Auditors), and familiarity with various computer systems, general accounting software, and data extraction tools. 

Knowledge of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) contract standards/ guidelines required, and experience with applying such guidelines a plus. 

Ability to communicate policies and procedures to individuals and groups, and to persuade others to accept or adopt a specific opinion or action. 

Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and/or a convincing argument to executives. 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial related materials. 

Ability to accept ambiguous circumstances and take action where answers to a problem are not readily apparent. 

Must be a self-starter, motivated, energetic and perform well in high-pressure environments. 

Must be adaptable, empathetic, and able to maintain integrity, objectivity and responsibility. 

Ability to analyze construction contracts, issues, situations, practices and procedures and document such findings. 

Ability to define design and construction issues or objectives, identify relevant concerns or factors, identify patterns, tendencies and relationships, formulate logical and objective conclusions, and recognize alternatives and their implications. 

Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently in a dynamic and changing environment. 

Must possess highly developed analytical skills and the ability to think creatively. 

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of management. 

 

Desired Skills & Experience: 

Certifications in CPA, CIA, CFSA, CFE, or pursuit of certifications highly recommended. 

Participation/ Membership in the following associations is a plus: Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals, Construction Financial Management Association, Journal of Construction Accounting & Taxation, etc.
