The Mechanical Engineering group is hiring for a Sr. Principal Engineer Aeronautical professional at our Chandler, AZ location. 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for managing technical, schedule, cost, while supporting their program team. This includes identifying and addressing program risks to ensure launch success, facilitating technical solutions based on heritage and similar vehicles, and tracking the program schedule. Candidate will utilize thorough knowledge of launch vehicle mechanical design and integration activities
  • Lead by example, ensure proper cross-training of the team, and make sure the team understands the requirements of the Program and how they relate to the individual tasks that are being assigned to the team. This also includes having periodic meetings with the team to review the ME performance relative to the Program schedule
  • With minimal guidance, perform analysis, design, or test of one or more complex materials, structural components or functional systems. Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs
  • Based on broadly defined problems, study basic design concepts and criteria for complex materials, components, or functional systems and applies the engineering principles involved to develop new designs
  • Anticipate customer needs and finds innovative ways to provide for those needs
  • Originate and develop constructive ideas. Consistently look for ways to modify or change existing methods or processes to improve outcomes
  • Perform highly complex engineering design, development, analysis, and test activities to support assigned projects
  • Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis
  • Interact with internal and external customers; Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production and maintenance phases of a project
  • Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers
  • Support new business and prepare proposal material

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DoD Secret Security clearance
  • Launch campaign field support is required at remote site
  • Ability to travel 10% as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting integration / testing of flight hardware and oversight of technician work tasking
  • Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree
  • Active US DoD Secret Security clearance, or higher
Salary Range: $118,600 - $178,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
