 As an At-Risk Mentor, you will manage a portfolio of students who have been identified based on attendance, performance, and discipline challenges. The At-Risk Mentor provides case management and support to students within their portfolio, building high quality, supportive and challenging relationships, and connecting with other adults in their life to help support holistic strategies for development and success.

‖ Responsibilities Include:

  • Utilizing strategies such as home visits, coordinating with classroom teachers and clinical professionals, and familiarizing themselves with afterschool and out-of-school supports to develop a holistic understanding of students’ learning, home, and social context.
  • Working with multiple stakeholders, independently building strong relationships among them and being self-directed in purpose while holding student achievement at the center.
  • Reviewing and analyzing student-level data to understand and report on the effectiveness of interventions for students on their case load.
  • Connecting students with appropriate support and intervention, ongoing follow up, and building relationships with students’ families, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Utilizing home visits, relationship building at Ombudsman, and other referral processes to identify, follow up with, and create intervention plans for students who are not attending school.
  • Leading case management and oversight of the re-entry process for all students who are returning to Ombudsman from a suspension, home stay, or other long term leave of absence.
  • Participating in the Clinical Care team.
  • Leading meetings with security guards and other advocate associates to review individual student circumstances and make sure that interventions are impactful.
  • Utilizing data systems to track student performance, progress to goals, and to drive additional intervention recommendations
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

‖ Qualifications Required:

  • Associate's degree or higher in a closely related field of study.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid state driver's license.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge in alternative educational services for at-risk students and working with students with diverse needs at various levels.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals and next steps.
  • Highly skilled in building relationships with students, parents, teachers and/or community partners.
  • History of success building credibility, making quick decisions, delivering fast results and demonstrating resilience and persistence to get things done.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Well-versed in mentoring, coaching, administrative support, and/or technical support functions.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.
  • Availability to work evening hours as needed.
