The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a dedicated Project Manager Mid-Level to participate in Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Fellowship Cohort 25-1 with USAA. The HOH Fellowship Program builds an extraordinary experience for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses that increase competitiveness and improve opportunities to find meaningful employment by providing development, skills, and exposure to corporate working environment and private sector business operations. HOH Fellowship Programs are best-in-class workforce development programs that are cohort based and twelve weeks in duration.

In this role you will advise stakeholders by providing business planning guidance to include research, development, planning and implementation of procedures and processes to increase business viability and ensure compliance and/or product competitiveness and profitable growth. Develop and implement solutions to influence business decisions for relevant line(s) of business. Assist with the development of best in practice solutions to complex business challenges. Identify opportunities to change, enhance, or streamline existing business projects and initiatives. Identify regulatory and/or operational gaps within the experience to mitigate key risks associated with financial, reputational or member harm.

As a participant in the Military Fellowship Program, we understand that in most cases Fellows are ending their active service commitments and actively relocating. Therefore, while participating in the Fellowship program, Fellows are authorized to work remotely.

If selected for full time employment, we offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio TX, Plano TX, Charlotte NC, Tampa FL, Phoenix AZ or Colorado Springs CO.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Identifies opportunities and provides guidance on procedure and process improvements to influence business optimization.
  • Collaborates with enterprise partners to facilitate the development of business rules, requirements and artifacts for business projects, processes and initiatives.  
  • Defines acceptance criteria, requirements, provides artifacts and obtains approvals for business processes/initiatives and responsible for required documentation of business decisions. 
  • Coordinates with appropriate stakeholders and program/project sponsors to help ensure successful product and initiative implementation.
  • Coordinates training, communications such as job aids and related activities for new processes, procedures and/or product changes.
  • Conducts periodic testing against key controls and take necessary actions to address issues.
  • Assists with the development and execution of operational reporting.
  • Assists in the collection and documentation of business decisions in accordance with enterprise record retention standards.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Current participant in the 25-1 Hiring our Heroes (HOH) Cohort or a current USAA contractor in the 24-3 HOH Non-direct cohort.
  • Bachelors degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of project management, process consulting, or business optimization planning experience.  
  • Proficient knowledge of industry technology applications such as Salesforce, SharePoint, CRM or other industry related applications. 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing communications and delivering key information effectively to stakeholders and all levels of management to influence decisions centered around business optimization.
  • Knowledge of risk management frameworks and regulatory requirements for applicable LOB.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.

What sets you apart:

  • 2+ years of experience involved with fraud or investigative processes that evaluate risk and efficiency.
  • Proven ability to quickly understand complex topics and speak to newly obtained information succinctly.
  • Federal, State, or Local Law Enforcement, Military experience.

What we offer:

Hiring Our Heroes Fellows are paid by the HOH program.

If selected for a full-time role, USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The hiring range for this position is: $67,220 - $128,480.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
