Staff M&S Systems Engineer (Team Lead)

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The qualified applicant will support a growing portfolio of programs and IRADs that focus on missile defense and hypersonic technologies and will lead a modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) project team in evaluating the performance of innovative traditional and hypersonic missile defense technologies.

Domestic and international travel (up to 25%) may be required, dependent on program needs. This position will specifically focus on leading a small project team developing models and simulations and performing performance analysis for various current and future missile defense systems. A successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing the definition of trade studies, executing high-fidelity simulations, and informing the development of system requirements and future performance.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in a STEM field and 12 years of related experience OR Master of Science in a STEM field and 10 years of related experience
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Experience using Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) to inform the development of systems along the left side of the “systems engineering vee”
  • Experience with using the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM), Ansys Systems ToolKit (STK), or similar modeling/simulation framework
  • Experience using Python or MATLAB to interpret raw data simulation outputs
  • Experience reading and interpreting Systems Modeling Language (SysML) diagrams
  • Experience leading small engineering teams in a high-paced environment and advising management on paths forward
  • Comfortable communicating technical information to technical and non-technical customers
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior-level engineers
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in systems engineering
  • Comprehensive experience using the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM)
  • Experience with Ansys ModelCenter
  • Ability to support development of systems engineering models utilizing SysML and Cameo
  • Experience using agile development methodologies
  • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Graduate Certificate
  • INCOSE ASEP (or above) certification
  • Object Modeling Group (OMG) Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) Model Builder Fundamental Certification

Salary Range: $150,000 - $225,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
