Job Summary:

Provides complete and appropriate neurodevelopmental evaluations for a wide variety of patients related to specific neurodevelopmental disorders. Collaborates with treating physician/psychiatric and allied health professional team to plan and direct each individual members treatment program.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Performs neurodevelopmental evaluations of patients with actual and suspected developmental disorders/concerns, such as patients with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder or Global Developmental Delays. Prepares comprehensive written assessment reports which may include diagnostic impressions.

  • May provide recommendations for intervention with patients, specific to neurodevelopmental issues, including psychotherapy/consultation where indicated. Treatment recommendations may include direct intervention and program development as well as consultation with other professionals and parents/guardians; provides consultation to patients and parents/guardians concerning the patients condition, functional status, prognosis, training, educational and/or vocational options.

  • Consults regarding cognitive and neurobehavioral concerns for patients with suspected, diagnosed or determined disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability and/or other known genetic conditions (e.g., Fragile X, 22q, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy).

  • Provides consultation with other medical departments to assist in diagnostic clarification and development of treatment programs for patients with complex medical and psychological/psychosocial needs.

  • Participates in clinical activities with developmental pediatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, speech-language pathologists, developmental case managers, behavioral interventionists, mental health clinicians and/or primary care physicians.

  • May make recommendations on community resources to meet the needs of the members treatment. Refer to relevant social service agencies and community organizations to meet the needs of the members treatment.

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: May provide clinical supervision to doctoral psychology interns, postdoctoral psychology fellows, and other mental health trainees or medical residents as necessary.

  • May provide direct intervention with patients, specific to neurodevelopmental issues, including psychotherapy and/or family consultation where indicated. Treatment may include program development as well as consultation with other professionals and family members.


Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • One (1) year doctoral internship with training in human development/neurodevelopment.

  • Two (2) or more years within the past five (5) years of work experience and/or training specific to assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders.

  • OR:

  • An equivalent combination of training, supervision and experience as identified in #1 and #2 to be considered on a case by case basis.

Education

  • Doctorate degree in Psychology from an American Psychological Association accredited (or equivalent) doctoral program. Academic courses should reflect didactic and experimental training in neuropsychology and psychopathology.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Psychologist License (California)
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire
Additional Requirements:

  • Able to practice under Business and Professional Code Section 2946.
  • Competency with administering and interpreting gold standard assessment measures and providing diagnostic clarification related to neurodevelopmental disorders, without supervision.
  • Documented experience working as a member of an interdisciplinary team in a psychiatric, pediatric, and/or neurodevelopmental setting.
  • Knowledge of community agencies and resources.
  • Knowledge of state regulations and APA standards as they relate to client treatment, patient rights, client/patient confidentiality, and other ethical issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently without direct clinical supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
