Job Description:

The staff registered nurse (RN) is a licensed professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for planning, delegating, and coordinating the nursing care of a group of patients during a designated time frame utilizing the John Muir Medical Center Standards of Care, ANA's Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, and the California Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, and Title 16. The RN coordinates and provides care through the therapeutic use of self, nursing process, and the environment and technology, in partnership and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.Education:
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing Required
Experience:
6 Months Nursing - Acute Care Preferred
2000 hours Nursing - Critical Care Must be Obtained within last 3 years - Core Requirement
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
For Critical Care Training Program only - In addition to minimum RN qualifications listed, must meet one of the following requirements:
Previous Critical Care experience (would bypass training)
Previous Critical Care Cross-Trained Experience within the last 2 years
Successful completion of a Critical Care Training Program within the last 3 years
For Critical Care New Grad Program only – In addition to minimum RN qualifications listed, must meet the following requirements:Â
New GraduateÂ
120 hour Preceptorship in Critical Care within the last 18 months.
Certifications/Licensures:
RN Registered Nursing - California Board of Nursing Required
BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association Required
ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association Required
Approved Cardiac Rhythm Test - Must Pass at time of hire (Required if hired after 11/15/2018)Â Required
Nursing - Stroke/TPA Patient Experience Core Requirement
NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale - No Issuing Agency Certification - Achieved by the end of orientation to the assigned area Required
NIHSS National Institute of Health Stroke Scale - No Issuing Agency Competency - Successful completion on an annual basis Required
Approved Cardiac Rhythm Test – Internal Candidates Must Pass Prior to Applying for Position (must be proctored in Human Resources) – Required
Skills:
Core:
Demonstrates competency in caring for hemodynamically unstable patients including acute pre and post interventional procedures, septic shock, TPA administration for stroke patients and patients requiring hypothermia therapy.
Demonstrates competency for patients who are requiring cardiac assist devices and CRRT, on appropriate units.
Demonstrates competency in the care and management of complex pulmonary patients in applicable units who require Rotoprone therapy, CRRT, DKA, ETOH withdrawal, and multisystem organ failure.
Demonstrates competency in hemodynamic wave form analysis.
Functions as an RRT responder and demonstrates competency in the implementation of the RRT orders in applicable units.
Demonstrates competency in the application or use of cardiac pharmacology, vasoactive therapy, titration and regulation of multiple vasoactive agents, temporary, permanent, and transcutaneous pacemakers, and emergency interventions, including defibrillation.
