Outpatient Psychologist specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the brain, emotional disturbance and behavior problems. Geisinger’s outpatient psychology team is specifically seeking a psychologist with both a strong generalist skill set and specific training in several areas of health psychology. Specifically, the psychologist who fills this role will be required to: Manage an outpatient case load, which will consist of a blend of treating more general behavioral health concerns and specific health conditions, such as chronic pain. Conduct individual evaluations and provide both individual and group therapy to persons presenting with functional neurological disorders. Conduct psychological assessments specifically for pre-surgical evaluations (e.g. bariatric surgery evaluations, spinal cord stimulator evaluations). Serve as a member of our destination medicine team, conducting in-person pre-surgical evaluations specifically for Geisinger’s destination medicine program (e.g. bariatric surgeries and spinal surgeries) one to day days per week. Be involved in the training of doctoral interns and possibly post-doctoral residents, specifically overseeing rotations in the health psychology domains referenced above. Take a patient’s medical history. Update charts and patient information to show current findings and treatments. Order tests for nurses or other healthcare staff to perform. Review test results to identify any abnormal findings. Recommend and design a plan of treatment. Address concerns or answer questions that patients have about their health and well-being. Help patients take care of their health by discussing topics such as proper nutrition and hygiene. Work is typically performed in a clinical and office environment.
