Position Summary:
The clinical specialist serves as the clinical expert for assigned Surgical Services. . The clinical specialist is responsible for the coordination of education for the practice of perioperative nursing. This individual assesses and diagnoses specific learning needs of nurses in assigned areas, and then provides the appropriate clinical intervention for their development. The clinical specialist serves as a clinical resource to the new nurse and their preceptor as well as the experienced nurse in the advanced practice setting. Collaboratively working with the facility educators, the clinical specialist facilitates patient care and improves staff performance in the clinical specialty areas. The clinical specialist ensures continuity between clinical practice and standards of care. This individual works collaboratively with surgeons, staff, managers and other health care disciplines utilizing a team approach.
