Occ Summary

Perform a variety of nonprofessional nu rsiitalWorking knowledge of infection control procedures and safety prec autmination;provide such additional care as required to meet the persona l ng,assisting withambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elingduties in the direct careof patients under the direct supervision o f anRN/LPN.


Work Performed

Prepare patients, equipmen t and supplies for specific procedures andprovide manual assistance as r equired.Obtain and record patient data for medical records noting and in formingRN/LPN of information collected.Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients including,but not limited to, feeding, bath ing,shaving, changing clothing,cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-ma kineeds andcomfort of assigned patients.Participate in teaching activiti esbyreinforcing teaching instructed byRN and/or physician as needed.Assi stphysician and nurses with physical examinations by helpingposition pat ients, changing non-sterile dressing and weighing patients.Take and reco rdvital signs, record I&O, apply ice bags, administerdouches and enemas. Note and report any changes in patient's condition.Turn and position pat ients, set up and feed patients asnecessary,provide patients with fresh drinking water.Perform fingersticks for blood glucose testing, with appr opriatetraining.Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation ofp atients.Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipmen tasrequired.Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specim ens.Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment asre quired.Participate in own professional development by maintaining requir edskills validation and attendingeducational offerings. Support thedeve lopment of other staff and formal learners.May also perform sterile dres sing change for wounds over 48 hours old,IV fluid assistance activities, oral/nasogastric feeding and urinarycatherizations/irrigation.Performot herrelated duties incidental to work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Completion of a Level I - Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC - approved Nurse Aide I competency test. High School diploma or equivalent required.

Currently listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the Division of Facility Services with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property. BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation, which typically takes place during the first week of employment.
