Job Title: Senior Director, Data Governance

Current Need:

The Senior Director of Data Governance will play a crucial role in executing McKesson’s Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services (PSaS) data management strategy, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and availability of data across all the segments of the business. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory compliance, and data quality best practices. The ideal candidate will lead a team of data governance professionals and work collaboratively with stakeholders to foster a data-driven culture.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and Implement Data Governance Strategy: Design and execute a comprehensive data governance framework that aligns with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Policy and Standards Management: Enforce enterprise data governance policies, standards, and processes to ensure data integrity, privacy, and security. Establish business specific policies and standards as needed
  • Metadata Management: Oversee the creation, maintenance, and implementation of metadata standards and practices to ensure consistency and accessibility of data assets.
  • Data Cataloguing: Develop and manage a data catalog system to facilitate data discovery, data lineage tracking, and efficient data usage across the organization.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Lead initiatives to monitor, assess, and improve data quality and accuracy across all business units.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to data-related regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders, including IT, legal, compliance, and business units, to promote data governance awareness and adoption.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of data governance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Data Stewardship: Oversee the data stewardship program, ensuring that data stewards are effectively managing data assets within their domains.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate data-related risks, ensuring that data governance practices support the organization's risk management framework.
  • Performance Metrics: Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of the data governance program.
  • Data literacy: Lead efforts to raise the level of data literacy and help stakeholders become more data-driven, providing educations and coaching to stakeholders and facilitating data-centric business thinking
  • Team management: Foster a high-performing, diverse and inclusive team culture and mentor them to focus on continuous improvement with value delivery through data governance

Critical Requirements

We seek an accomplished leader, with demonstrated success in leading large teams and transforming companies to adopt data governance. 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least 13+years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality management, regulatory compliance, and data privacy practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to all levels of management, and strong executive presence 
  • Project Management: Experience managing large-scale data governance projects and initiatives.
  • Certification: Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP) are a plus.
  • Industry experience and knowledge in Healthcare or Supply chain is preferred

Relocation is NOT budgeted for this position.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. Our Base Pay Range for this position

$141,800 - $236,300
