Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Non-Destructive Test (NDT) Technician - Level 5 to join our team at our Elkton, Maryland location. The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Discover charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award winning restaurants, and inns. You can hike, bike, camp, bird watch, ride horseback, or drop a fishing line. Five rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the C&D Canal can be explored by boat or by land. Experience panoramic views from Turkey Point Lighthouse on a bluff overlooking the Bay, or from the banks of the C&D Canal where ships from around the globe cruise. Position Summary: Performs non-destructive tests (NDT) on aerospace components and assemblies. Inspects metallic and nonmetallic materials, parts and assemblies for defects using automated and manual methods and techniques including radiography, ultrasound, and penetrant inspection methods. Requires certifications in non-destructive testing in accordance with regulations. Radiographic techniques include film, computed radiography, digital radiography and computed tomography. Responsibilities: Operate high and low energy X-radiation equipment, operate automated film processor, computed radiography scanner, and computed tomography equipment and computers. Operate ultrasonic flaw detector, working with pulse echo and angle beam inspections. Perform Type I and II dye penetrant tests, methods A, B, and C. Interpret, evaluate and make accept/reject decisions and document those decisions. Maintain Level 3 certifications in radiography, ultrasound, and penetrant inspection methods which include formal classroom training, on-the-job training and written and practical exams for each NDT method and level. Must complete retesting at specified intervals to retain certifications. Guide, coach and train NDT technicians in daily operations. Qualify NDT technicians for certification as an NDT technician in various NDT methods and levels. Receive guidance, coaching, and training from a certified Level 3 NDT technician or NDT Engineer. Communicate inspection results and help program team members and customers understand inspection results. Conduct Supplier NDT audits. Basic Qualifications NDT Level 5: High School Diploma or equivalent GED. Must have at least 8 years of experience and/or combination of experience and related education. Experience in manufacturing and NDT of Aerospace products. Current Level 3 NAS 410 certification in radiographic inspection (RT) with current hands-on experience and at least 2 years as a certified level 3. Must be able to provide certification and experience records. Familiar with NSI computed tomography software and Volume Graphics data analysis software. Experience with film and non-film radiographic techniques. Level 2 or 3 NAS 410 certification in ultrasonic testing (UT) or penetrant testing (PT). Must be able to provide certification and experience records. Candidate must have strong mathematical skills including basic algebra. Advanced PC skills including proficiency with MS Office 365 products. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills in English. Must have the skills and knowledge to interpret codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control NDT method(s). Perform physical requirements of this position including lifting up to 50 lbs. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a team. Must be available to work overtime and weekends. 2nd shift work may be required on a rotating schedule. U.S. Citizenship; must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance. Preferred Qualifications NDT Level 5: Familiar with Digital radiography. Familiar with Fuji computed radiography software. Familiar with Olympus EPOCH flaw detectors. Familiar with AS9100, NADCAP, and other Quality / NDT auditing / accreditation systems. Experience with Supplier NDT audits. This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.
