Propulsion Service Engineer Job Summary

We are seeking a Propulsion Service Engineer to be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of propulsion systems, including thrusters, gearboxes, and propellers on various types of vessels and offshore platforms. This position requires hands-on technical expertise in propulsion systems, field service experience, and a commitment to ensuring the reliable operation of critical equipment. The role involves working on-site, either in port or offshore, to deliver high-quality service in line with industry standards.

Propulsion Service Engineer Responsibilities

  • Conduct overhauls of propulsion equipment both onboard vessels and in workshops, ensuring all repairs meet manufacturer and industry specifications.
  • Diagnose faults and failures in propulsion systems and recommend corrective actions, including part replacements, repairs, or upgrades.
  • Lead and coordinate propulsion service jobs, collaborating with customers, ship crew, and internal teams to ensure efficient and timely service delivery.
  • Carry out dynamic balancing, shaft alignment, and vibration analysis to optimize propulsion system performance.
  • Install, commission, and test new propulsion systems, ensuring that they meet operational requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Work with various Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) systems and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Maintain accurate service records, including work logs, inspection reports, and technical documentation for each job.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies during all service activities.
  • Provide technical training and support to customers and crew on the proper operation and maintenance of propulsion systems.

Propulsion Service Engineer Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or comparable by experience) in mechanical engineering
  • You have a good command of the English language, both orally and in writing, Spanish would be a plus
  • Experience in shipping is an advantage
  • Experience installing, repairing, and overhauling Azmiuth Thruster, Bow Thruster, Stern Thruster, CPP, FPT, and sealing
