Essential Functions:
Howmet’s Houston Extrusion Plant focuses on converting specialty metals into value added extrusions for the aerospace and defense industries. The Maintenance Technician supports production operations by inspecting, monitoring, repairing, and maintaining the operation of all production equipment and plant systems.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Performs inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of production equipment and plant systems
- Performs preventative maintenance in accordance with written instructions
- Communicates equipment concerns with operators, supervisors, and other maintenance personnel to diagnose and repair issues
- Documents status and completion of work orders and projects via use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Documents spares condition, inventory levels, and usage via CMMS
- Maintains clean work area and organized tool box
- Ensure work is in compliance with of all site safety policies including lockout/tagout
- Complies with all EHS rules required for the work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Work Environment:
- Metals processing necessitates the use of induction heaters and gas furnaces; as such, the manufacturing floor is unconditioned with few exceptions. The office areas and break areas are climate controlled.
- Rotating shift assignments based on production plan; starting 1st shift
- Must be flexible; able to work extended hours and weekends when required
- All tools and training provided
- Reports directly to Maintenance Manager
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience
- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with heavy equipment repair and complex hydraulic systems
- Formal technical/Vocational degree
- Relevant technical, vocational, or military training certificates
- Must have the aptitude to troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Can identify and isolate PLC, HMI, and controls issues for escalation by controls engineer
- Ability to problem solve rationally and be able to identify root cause of equipment failure
- Ability to interpret equipment schematics, hydraulic circuits, control circuits, single-line electrical drawings, and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
- Ability to research and identify parts via parts-fiche and assembly drawings
- Ability to communicate effectively; both written and orally.
- Strong PC skills: ability to navigate and use CMMS, SAP ERP system, and manufacturing execution system (MES)
- Must be able to obtain an in-house mobile equipment certification, including use of forklift and boom lift
- Basic metal fabrication skills: use of power tools, cutting torch, stick welder, saws, and knee mill.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
