Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in either Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL.
Position Overview:
The Staff Systems Engineer will join the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) team and work in an integrated team environment with other systems and specialty engineers to develop solutions that include a background in all systems development life cycle aspects. In this role, the candidate will be flexible and able to support various tasks on short notice.
The selected candidate will perform the work under the direction of the Systems Engineering Lead and multiple product owners and will require interfacing with team members, C2BMC management, and government customers to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within the resources available.
The C2BMC program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
Essential Functions:
- Provide Use Case briefing development support to junior systems engineering team members to enhance Use Case skills in the department.
- Wil focus on supporting the development and review of Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Requirements, Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) development, and author and performing formal and informal engineering reviews.
- Adhering to DOORS processes and procedures, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts on an as-required basis.
- Actively participate in the efforts associated with Agile development, including iteration planning, status, and agile team leadership.
- Contributions to implementation that include the ability to analyze high-level needs and define a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that led to a fielded product.
- Will communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings and will write and implement project engineering plans.

Basic Qualifications:
Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 12 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of experience, or a PhD and 8 years of experience.
- Must have experience developing system engineering artifacts (e.g., Interface Control Documents, Use Cases Briefings, Sequence Diagrams, Trade Studies, Specifications, Architecture Descriptions, etc.).
- Must possess an understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
- Experience working in an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions.
- Proven track record of successfully applying system engineering principles to develop product solutions.
- Experience decomposing requirements from parent-level to lower system/subsystem-level requirements.
- Must be able to write and implement engineering plans within a project.
- Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs.
- Applicants must have a current active in-scope DoD issued secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Top Secret clearance.
- Experience working within an Agile development environment.
- Domain experience with both Space and Missile Defense.
- Experience in mission analysis and SysML modeling in support of MBSE.
- A DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) is highly desired.

Salary Range for Staff Systems Engineer:
Colorado Springs, CO = $150,000 - $225,000
Huntsville, AL = $157,500 - $236,300
Salary Range: $150,000 - $236,300The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
