Northrop Grumman has established an Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) Product Line within the C4MD Business Unit to capitalize on growth in the deployment of IBCS to the US Government and international partners. To facilitate execution of current IBCS Product Line efforts and growth of the associated business areas and programs, we are seeking a chief Agilist which will be responsible for guiding all IBCS Product Line Agile efforts.

IBCS Product Line Agilist: The IBCS Product Line Agilist advocates for and leads the Lean-Agile transformation within the Product Line, guiding the team to properly apply Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) principles and practices for our SW Development Teams and Kanban principles for our Hardware Agile Teams and will be accountable for the following:

  • Alignment: Ensure that goals, values, and priorities are visible, understood and supported
  • Responsiveness: Ensure that both opportunities and impediments to success are quickly recognized and addressed
  • Culture: Ensure the culture is conducive to focus, fast learning, a rapid flow of information, and the ability to produce tangible results quickly
  • Process and Structure: Ensure that organizational structure and workflow support effective and efficient collaboration

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience guiding large-scale, multi-disciplinary Agile teams in the development of defense systems, with a focus on delivering innovative, mission-critical solutions. As Staff Agilist, the candidate is expected to provide technical and intellectual leadership, as well as analytical support contributing to the advancement of sector growth goals and engineering excellence.  The candidate must also have a strong grasp of campaign execution, networking strategy, and possess the skills, drive, and judgement to successfully interface with senior leaders/technologists across the company and the customer community. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Serves as the Product Line’s organizational servant leader and facilitator for program events and activities for planning, executing, delivery and relentless improvement, such as Program Increment (PI) Planning readiness and PI Planning events and activities
  • Guide the overall Agile Portfolio and coordinate large Value Streams using a variety of tools and methods to ensure strategy and execution alignment
  • Provide team training, education, and guidance in the proper application of agile methodologies
  • Contribute to the development of the Product Line IPT Plans and other documentation
  • Assisting teams in establishing, and maintaining executable backlogs
  • Identify the proper value-added agile metrics to track and report progress
  • Applies advanced Agile, Lean and SAFe principles and skills. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts. Acts as advisor to management and partners directly with Customer stakeholders, Product Line Leaders, and end-users
  • Mentors and coaches agile execution across the Product Line
  • Collaborate with the Product Line Engineer for alignment of agile execution needs
  • Participate in cross-BU, division, sector or enterprise agile communities to bring best-in-class patterns and methods to the IBCS Product Line

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 12+ years of engineering experience OR Master's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 10+ years of engineering experience OR PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 7+ years
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in a large-scale Agile development environment as senior leadership role within the defense industry, with proven success leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams across different product line lifecycle phases. Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, advise, instruct, and recommend successful patterns across all levels from individual contributors to senior leadership and mentor next generation Agile leaders
  • Demonstrated leadership of Agile portfolios that had a strategic impact on the business growth and performance; leadership in Agile execution and/or transformation
  • Experience with agile backlog management and collaboration tools (Atlassian JIRA, Confluence)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret or Top-Secret clearance
  • Deep knowledge of agile, lean, and related methodologies, include their values, principles, practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of various coaching and facilitation methods, showing ability to apply communication skills in high-stakes situations to facilitate optimal outcomes
  • Ability to listen and learn effectively in complex situations

 Preferred Qualifications:  

  • SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) for SAFe 5.0 or later
  • Certified PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) or PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
  • Previous experience with large-scale defense platforms such as missile systems, aircraft, naval vessels, or ground vehicles
  • Active Secret or Top-Secret clearance
Salary Range: $163,200 - $244,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
