Associate Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Engineer, Command & Control Integration Design

Experienced junior-level mechanical engineering position in the Huntsville Hardware Engineering functional department.   This position will support one or more projects performing design engineering for integration of Command and Control systems, such as radios, networks, antennas, and power equipment, in support of Department of Defense projects. These projects include anti-artillery systems, security and warning systems, air and missile defense components; installations in tactical wheeled and armored vehicles, aboard ships, or in operations centers; as well as associated support activities. Position supports a functional matrixed organization; employee's final program assignment may vary depending on staffing needs.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

-- Design of mechanical parts and assemblies, including 3D CAD modeling; 2D drawing drafting, review, revision, and release; selection of components and materials; support of trade studies

-- Communicating with suppliers and customers to exchange technical information

-- Collaborating with other functional areas on various aspects of product design/documentation, including procurement, production, logistics, or configuration management

-- Hands-on troubleshooting, inspection, or assembly of parts/subsystems in support of prototyping, production, or test

-- Performing engineering analyses, such as weight and center of mass, structural, transportability, or thermal; as well as authoring reports documenting them

-- Creating and delivering engineering briefings or reports to support design review activities

-- Tracking & reporting task status in an Agile for Hardware environment

Basic Qualifications:

-- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

-- Minimum 2 years of experience (for Engineer Mechanical) in design engineering, manufacturing engineering, or test engineering

-- Experience creating 3D parametric models using any industry-standard 3D CAD package

-- Experience drafting, reviewing, or interpreting 2D mechanical drawings

-- Self-motivated and able to work productively and independently in a fast-paced environment

-- Good attention to detail, follow-through, and time-management skills

-- Demonstrated good verbal/written communication skills & proactive inter-personal initiative

-- Current DoD Secret (or greater) security clearance (or interim)

Preferred Qualifications:

-- Experience performing 3D solid modeling with NX

-- Experience using any industry-standard Product Lifecycle Management systems such as TeamCenter (preferred)

-- Experience using Manufacturing Resource Planning systems, SAP preferred

-- Experience working in or providing engineering support to manufacturing or test/evaluation, particularly for DoD projects

-- Experience designing to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards

-- Experience working in a Scrum, Agile, or Kanban product-development environment

-- Experience in integration design of C2 systems supporting DoD customers

Salary Range: $62,600 - $93,800
Salary Range 2: $75,700 - $113,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
