Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Corporate Tax Group. We are seeking an Indirect Tax Expert. The candidate must have strong analytical skills, be detail-oriented, able to build strong working relationships within our team and across the business through effective verbal and written communication. This position will be responsible for all aspects of various indirect taxes in US and Canada including sales and use, motor fuel and agronomy taxes.

Responsibilities

  • Review taxability of the products and services offered by the Company
  • Research and apply tax statutes and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Independently research and resolve indirect tax questions from internal departments as well as external tax jurisdictions
  • Manage complex indirect tax audits
  • Prepare indirect tax returns that require applicable level of expertise
  • Respond to inquiries and resolve notices/assessments from taxing jurisdictions and regulatory agencies
  • Perform internal audit of purchase transactions to ensure sales and use tax accuracy, work with the business units to correct issues, and identify refund opportunities
  • Review and oversee the indirect tax compliance prepared by external provider(s)
  • Review licensing requirements and complete applications and renewals
  • Develop, improve, and streamline end-to-end indirect tax compliance processes
  • Participate as the Indirect Tax subject matter expert in various Finance and Company-Wide projects
  • Consult and provide advice to internal personnel (business units, corporate development, finance, shared services) on acquisitions, divestitures, and expansion projects

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Business, Business Administration, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in Finance, Accounting, and/or Tax Accounting

Additional Qualifications

  • CPA certification
  • Master of Business Taxation
  • Tax Experience in Agriculture and/or Oil and Gas industry
  • Knowledge of JDE and SAP
  • Knowledge of Avalara AvaTax, Avalara Returns Excise, or comparable products
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Experience with tax research software such as CCH and RIA Checkpoint
  • Subject matter expertise in tax accounting
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Detail-oriented with commitment to accuracy and quality
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
