Director of Laboratory at Baylor Scott & White Surgical Hospital Las Colinas: 

  • The Director is responsible for daily operations, personnel management, point-of care testing, contracted/referral patient analysis, and regulatory compliance of both the radiology and laboratory services for the facility.

Required Skills:

Education:                                                                                                    

 Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science degree from an accredited college or university.

 

Licensure/Certification:                                                                                

 Current certification by one of the following agencies: MT/MLS(ASCP) or categorical, MT(HEW), MT(AMT), CLS(NCA)

Required Experience:

Specific Job Experience:

· Minimum three (3) years’ experience in an accredited laboratory

· Two to five years’ Management experience and/or other clinical progressive leadership/management experience

· Experience with Point of Care Testing

· Experience with blood banking and other aspects of pathology services

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

· Improves and / or maintains high employee morale as measured by the employee satisfaction survey

· Successful at implementing change and managing and resolving conflict

· Participates in the continual viability of the facility through program development

· Develops, implements and revises policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services

· Integrates department’s services with the hospital’s primary functions and with other departments

· Conduct training programs

· Reviewing quality control data.

· Evaluating new instrumentation.

· Providing technical guidance and troubleshooting.

· Takes into account business trends, resource availability and changes in customers in the operation of the laboratory.

· Communicates the needs of the department to Senior Management and collaborates with medical staff regarding Laboratory issues and therapy recommendations. 

· Supports management team in meeting facility goals.

· Responsible for contracted /referral testing including, but not limited to: Pathology, Microbiology, and other analysis not performed “in-house”

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

· Consistently demonstrates professional behavior and exhibits strong leadership skills.

· Demonstrates effective communication, delegation, empowerment, and negotiation skills

· Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies/standards, including JCAHO, Medicare and CLIA

· Ability to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

· Good communication and people skills

-        Ability to utilize Electronic Health Care Record for patient documentation.
