Do you like driving and want to get paid for it? How about driving a big open-air military vehicle, seeing animals from around the world but not leaving the country? Join our Safari team as a truck driver! Youāll be paired with our truck trainers and learn about our trucks while driving guests around our 350-acre Safari with 70 different species from 6 continents. See animals that are playing, giving birth, growing up, and even animals that are extinct in the wild. You will never make the same trip twice! With your tour guide you will provide memories that will stay with guests for a lifetime while making memories of your own. The safari season is from March-November with training starting in February. Applicants that do not meet qualifications will not be considered for this position but may be considered for other positions at Six Flags.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a large military vehicle in an off-road situation, while providing animals the right of way.
- Safely secure wheelchairs to the trucks.
- Familiar with the animals that are in safari (information provided)
- Interact with guests in a professional manner and help as needed
- Report any animal abnormalities or abnormal/unsafe park conditions to the Safari Wardens
- Use daily logs to check assigned vehicles for any abnormalities and report to supervisors
- Maintain clean and sanitary vehicles and work areas
- Respect Six Flagsā property, equipment, trainers, team members, and supervisors
- Adhere to all Six Flags and departmental policies including but not limited to attendance, punctuality, and dress code.
- Effectively and professionally communicate over the radio, maintaining clear and concise transmissions.
- Work well in a team environment
- Be a team player and help in other areas of the Safari Department
- Cross train with other departments performing tasks essential for daily operation including but not limited to gate guarding, rides attendant, and station operator.
- Support our 'Save an Icon' conservation initiative by promoting the program with guests
Qualifications:
- 21 years of age or older
- CDL Class B with passenger endorsement preferred but not required
- Valid driverās license in good standing. Must have been driving for a minimum of 2 full years.
- No more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years.
- Available to work at least 3 days a week throughout the length of the season. This must include weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Able to communicate effectively in the English language, including the ability to read, speak, write, and comprehend.
- Must be able to work outdoors and be exposed to all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Must have a positive attitude and outgoing personality
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods.
- Willing to learn in all different methods including PowerPoint, hands on, reading, and written assessments.
- Be able to take constructive criticism and apply during your training and daily operation.
- Physically able to climb into vehicle which includes 2 high steps.
- Able to react well in stressful situations or emergencies.
- Must maintain a strong commitment to safety.
- Must be a team player and treat co-workers, management, and other departments with respect.
- Must be able and willing to interact with guests in an engaging and professional manner.
Physical Demands:
- May be required to stand, sit, kneel, bend, and/or crouch for extended periods of time
- Moderate walking to and from the trucks, and home base, and from personal car to home base in all weather
conditions. - Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- May be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions including extreme cold or heat
- Occasionally exposed to high and/or precarious places
- May be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals (PPE will be supplied)
- Noise level of the work environment is moderate
