Our Key Accounts Team in Employer & Individual is responsible for strategies, sales, underwriting, account management and overall profitability. Â The Manager Life & Disability Underwriter will evaluate risk characteristics for new business as well as renewals (existing business) for Life, Disability and Supplemental Health products for customers under 5,000 eligible employees utilizing prior claims experience and manual rates.

The Manager Underwriting will conduct detailed analysis to establish profitable and competitive rates and plan characteristics given the unique circumstances and needs of each group customer. Â This individual will show superior technical knowledge including sound decision making with critical and analytical skills.Â

Primary Responsibilities:
- Underwrites new business quotes by analyzing plan design, demographics, and experience information to establish profitable and competitive premium levels
- Analyzes risk by running manual rate calculations and preparing experience-rated quotes
- An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions
- Underwrites renewals by reviewing current plan's premium history, claims history, and company financial condition to determine appropriate renewal action
- Prices and offers plan changes, produces experience analysis, and responds to inquiries from the Sales team, broker, customer, and other partners
- Managing, Training and Coaching Team Members

Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in Life, Disability and Supplemental Health underwriting (manual and experience rating)
- 2+ years of direct or indirect management experience (can be mentoring)
- Experience with groups of up to 5,000 Lives
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (including Word, Excel & Teams)
- Experience successfully collaborating with internal and external partners to develop appropriate case strategiesÂ

- Proficient knowledge of products including product, plan designs, pricing, and various funding arrangements
- A financial mindset to help make the best decisions
- High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit
- Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
