Our state-of-the-art investment casting facility in La Porte, Indiana is seeking a Process Engineer- Post Cast Process Owner to join our team. Nestled halfway between South Bend and Chicago, along the shores of Lake Michigan - our facility in La Porte, Indiana supplies jet engine components to some of the most trusted names in the Aerospace industry. 

This position is responsible for ensuring that the Post Cast processes (e.g., mold knock-out, abrasive cutting, rough finishing, sand blasting, etc.) are performed in compliance with the methods, materials, and equipment specifications as detailed in the business unit process manual and/or plant-specific requirements in addition to any applicable customer requirements. The Process Owner is accountable for process improvement, control and standardization in the assigned area and works closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other stakeholders. This role will also serve as surge capacity or as a backup for the other Process Owner disciplines (e.g., Wax, Monoshell, Casting, etc.), as needed. As such, cross training in each of these disciplines will be included.

Job responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Monitor key variables of the manufacturing sub-processes (e.g. knock-out, cutting, grinding, and cleaning) to determine process stability.
  • Drive process stability and improvements through structured process monitoring and by promoting best practice methodologies and new technologies.
  • Perform/ lead and report on monthly process reviews.
  • Ensure the timely and effective resolution of issues resulting from internal, peer, and external audits.
  • Assume responsibility for integrity of assigned process requirements.
  • Interact with internal and external customers to understand technical requirements and resolve issues.
  • Responsible for determination of the root cause of any deviation from critical process specifications and provide technical support to Process and Product Engineering to resolve Post Cast process related issues. 
  • Contribute to Business Unit new technology adaptation and validation efforts.
  • Responsible for understanding downstream product quality as it relates to the post cast processes and react appropriately to observed conditions.
  • Institute proper project monitoring, follow up and feedback system to ensure financial and contract targets are met. (Example: Yields and Rework).
  • Foster continuous improvement utilizing process management, designed experiments, Six Sigma, and statistical process control.
  • As a recognized expert in the Post Cast processing technology area, provide technical guidance to management and peers in areas of current or potential needs of the plant.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Must possess exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and conceptualize product configurations.
  • Must be a self-starter, manage time effectively and meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Must be a leader that positively represents Howmet’s vision and values.
  • Must have the ability to informally lead manufacturing operators and cross functional groups effectively and professionally
  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience required, with one year experience in engineered metal component manufacturing.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six Sigma green belt and/or black belt preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to create trustworthy relationships and energize teams. 
  • Preferred disciplines include Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering.
