STAFF ACCOUNTANT

The Staff Accountant will plan and direct the accounting activities of the department. As the Staff Accountant, you will assist the Controller in directing financial activities of the organization by performing duties personally, or through subordinates, such as reconciling financial activities, directing the accounting, payroll, and other functions. This role contributes to the development and maintenance of reporting, planning and budgeting systems. Assists with and ensures that all corporate and other required accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed. Mentoring, training and developing the team will be an integral part of the role. The Staff Accountant will need to have strong analytical, technological, communication and organizational skills. Must be a critical thinker to aid and assist in strategic planning and development.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Manages the accounting staff currently responsible for accounts payable processing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
  • Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
  • Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
  • Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
  • Accounts Payable (get appropriate approval, pay, record and reconcile bills and credit card charges)
  • Reconcile bank statements and credit card statements monthly
  • Record and reconcile intercompany transactions
  • Investigate and critique variances to budget or to prior year and offer practical improvement methodologies to management.
  • Analyze financial data and operations in order to assist and advise management in maintaining financial objectives.
  • Ensure that all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations are reconciled on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for the month-end close process; setting and communicating deadlines, maintaining schedules, and recording journal entries.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • At least 2 years' experience with and a preferred mastery of QuickBooks software
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization
  • Strong leadership skills with a dedication to driving and achieving results
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience with other financial systems.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required.
