Geisinger is seeking a Board Eligible/ Board Certified Fellowship trained Colorectal Surgeon for its health delivery system. Geisinger is one of the nation’s largest health service organizations serving patients throughout Pennsylvania. This position will be at our Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and Geisinger Grays Woods in State College Pennsylvania. The Division of Colorectal Surgery will have a total of 7 surgeons across the system. General Colorectal Surgery practice with a large volume of cancers and inflammatory bowel disease. Surgeon's practice will be approx 50% colorectal and 50% General Surgery. Shared call. Academic environment with a General Surgery Residency and strong research infrastructure. A surgeon manages a broad spectrum of surgical conditions affecting almost any area of the body. The surgeon establishes the diagnosis and provides the preoperative, operative and postoperative care to surgical patients and is usually responsible for the comprehensive management of the trauma victim and the critically ill surgical patient. The surgeon uses a variety of diagnostic techniques, including endoscopy, for observing internal structures and may use specialized instruments during operative procedures. A general surgeon is expected to be familiar with the salient features of other surgical in order to recognize problems in those areas and to know when to refer a patient to another specialist. Interviews patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories. Performs and/or interprets diagnostic tests as needed. Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness. May prescribe or administer medications. Prepares, maintains, and reviews records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
