The Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) Microelectronics Design & Applications (MDA) Business Area pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines the leading edge of exotic new technologies, and drives advances in the sciences. One of our most challenging new fields is Transformational Computing, which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical, new energy-efficient computing systems. Our team is chartered with providing the skills to transform computing beyond Moore’s Law, advancing development of computer architectures, processing/memory subsystems, and large-scale high-performance computing systems. You’ll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers to make these processing solutions a reality and deliver remarkable new advantages to the warfighter. The NGMC MDA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Engineering Team. This position requires work onsite at either our Advanced Technologies Laboratory located in Linthicum, MD or in Annapolis Junction, MD. Candidate will work as a Manufacturing Engineer supporting packaging development and deployment of superconducting and quantum computing technology. Candidate will interface with design engineering team to perform Design for Manufacturing (DFM) assessments and make recommendations to optimize designs for common manufacturing processes (machining, turning, grinding, Wire EDM, etc.). Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for all first-article assemblies. Once the first-article assemblies are complete, the candidate will develop work instructions and provide feedback to the design engineering team. For non-first article assemblies built by technicians, the candidate will perform quality assurance inspections on all received material and subassemblies, providing feedback to technicians as required. Finally, this candidate may be asked to step into roles that are adjacent to inventory management, lab management, and general technical leadership. This position can be filled at the Principal OR Sr. Principal level based on the qualifications below: Basic Qualifications for a Principal Manufacturing Engineer: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering field and 5 years of relevant technical experience; Master's Degree in relevant engineering field and 3 years of relevant technical experience; PhD in relevant engineering field and 1 year of relevant technical experience. An additional 4 years of relevant technical experience can be added in lieu of degree. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Proficiency reading and interpreting 3D models and engineering drawings. Deep understanding of mechanical engineering standards and practices. Deep understanding of many different manufacturing techniques, including but not limited to EDM, manual and CNC milling and turning, sheet metal processing, and 3D printing. Demonstrated experience writing documentation on processes and procedures. Demonstrated experience providing feedback on design and assembly of systems. Ability to communicate effectively to team members on technical and non-technical subjects both verbally and in writing. Ability to adjust to changing priorities and requirements. Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with polygraph security clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite. Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Manufacturing Engineer: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering field and 8 years of relevant technical experience; Master's Degree in relevant engineering field and 6 years of relevant technical experience; PhD in relevant engineering field and 4 years of relevant technical experience.
