Summary
CHS, Inc. is looking for a Right of Way and Property Manager to join our Energy division, specifically supporting our Oil Refineries, Pipelines & Terminals teams in McPherson, KS and Laurel, MT. This role involves managing land-use matters with various stakeholders, including landowners, tenants, lessees, neighbors, and regulatory agencies.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong commitment to customer service and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary.Â
This position can be located in either McPherson, KS or Laurel, MT.Â
Responsibilities
- Oversee CHS’s right-of-way files, negotiate new easements and land-use agreements, and handle damage payments.
- Secure necessary permits for pipeline and terminal maintenance and new construction projects.
- Develop and implement an electronic recordkeeping and data management system for right of way records that integrates with the GIS system.
- Maintain and organize right of way files, ensuring they are updated and cataloged.
- Serve as a liaison with CHS legal and external counsel on right of way and land issues.
- Obtain permits from government agencies, railroads, municipalities, and other entities for the construction and maintenance of pipelines and terminals.
- Supervise CHS personnel and contract right of way agents as needed.
- Collaborate with and/or supervise contracted engineering firms on right of way, land, and permit issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 7+ years of experience in the oil & gas industry with knowledge of titles, easements, contracts and right-of-way agreements
Additional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, GIS, construction, legal, engineering, or related field.
- Knowledge of real estate principals, rules and regulations pertaining to the acquisition of rights-of-way, licenses, permits and other land rights
- Experience coordinating large projects and in negotiating right-of-way agreements, including easements, and obtaining permits.
- Experience in right-of-way, GIS and/or legal documents
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with landowners and permitting agencies.
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret laws, statutes, and regulations.
- Experience in engineering and designing projects in the oil & gas industry.
- Strong negotiation skills and understanding of legal issues.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple project components simultaneously.
- Effective communication and persuasive negotiation skills.
- Supervisory skills with ability to work effectively with diverse work groups.
- Fosters a collaborative environment by considering multiple viewpoints and promoting mutual learning among team members.

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
