Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal/Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer - Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL) Design to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test & Evaluation organization. This position is located in Melbourne, FL.
The selected candidate will join a customer-focused multi-discipline team committed to providing a state‑of‑the‑art requirement‑based System Integration Laboratory (SIL) for testing & integrating the world’s most advanced equipment for air vehicles (AV).
Responsibilities may include:
Gathering data, analyzing, and interpreting customer requirements and generating corresponding lower-level requirements that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
Developing requirement-based SIL design that aligns with end-to-end architecture.
Providing detailed schematics, diagrams, specifications, and other contractually required documents for an elegant, efficient, safe, and secure SIL.
Providing technical support to the Integrated Product Team (IPT) in the investigation, analysis, and resolution of fabrication, installation, and integration problems during program lifecycle.
Designing, building, and testing the SIL to meet NG Principles and Operating Practices (PrOP) and contractual requirements. Configuration will change periodically as design solutions mature and are approved for release.
Utilizing test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) to confirm SIL equipment is functioning as specified.
Expected and empowered to call “All Stop” in any situation that becomes unsafe for personnel and/or equipment.
Electrical design of Laboratory equipment, test, measurement, and handling equipment used on military aircraft.
Gathering of data, requirements development, interfacing with suppliers, and performing electrical design of cable assemblies, circuit breaker panels, junction boxes, Equipment Racks etc.
Acting as manufacturing liaison during build process of your project to ensure overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved.
Testing and integration of manufactured Equipment in Lab and on aircraft.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Design Electrical Engineer:
Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of experience in engineering; OR Master of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 3 years of experience in engineering; OR PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 1 year of experience in engineering.
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, Capital, or any similar electrical design tool.
Must have an active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an interim Top Secret prior to starting, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the business.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance after start of employment.
Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Design Electrical Engineer:
Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of experience in engineering; OR Master of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 6 years of experience in engineering; OR PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics discipline from an accredited university with 4 years of experience in engineering.
Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, Capital, or any similar electrical design tool.
Must have an active DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an interim Top Secret prior to starting, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the business.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance after start of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using the Atlassian product suite (i.e., Jira, Confluence) in an agile environment or other intra-program communications, tracking, and/or data storage applications.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Teams & Office (Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
Experience managing suppliers to ensure all requirements are met, test artifacts / data package have been provided, and delivery dates held.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain SIL capabilities clearly to program management, customers, end users, and other stakeholders.
Salary Range 2: $118,600 - $178,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
