Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Engineer Systems - Technical Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.

In this role, the ideal candidate will have experience working with wireless communication systems, both commercial and military, as well as experience integrating and testing hardware/software solutions from a unit level, down to the microelectronics level, in a lab environment and as part of the field experiment. This role will involve working with multiple commercial partners to integrate the latest communications capabilities and designing a platform to support advanced battle management technologies.

A successful Lead Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams, consistently brings up concerns, issues and risks to program and technical leadership and holds the team to a high level of technical rigor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish technical baseline and execute change management to meet platform/payload specific experiment objectives.
  • Establish and lead a regular rhythm with stakeholders to communicate overall technical approach and methodology for design, integration, hypothesis testing, data collection, and recommendations.
  • Lead and present customer milestone reviews, including suppliers’ briefing, key performance requirements, architecture diagrams, solutions approach, etc.
  • Interpret, allocate, tailor, write and/or flow down requirements to all levels of a Mesh Network architecture.
  • Perform trade studies, document architectures/interfaces, analyze performance, and evaluate Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with regard to supplier current and future products offerings.
  • Lead supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and solution recommendation for Customer.
  • Execute supplier’s statement of work and documentation reviews and approval authority with respect to technical delivery.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) discipline AND 12 years of related professional/military experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 10 years of related professional/military experience OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 8 years of related professional/military experience
  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment
  • Must have a experience in establishing technical baseline of the microelectronics design, payload/RF/digital implementation, or system engineering disciplines in terms of requirement de-composition, V&V, and configuration change management.
  • Must have experience with leading and forming program execution path for teams to meet technical performance, cost, and schedule with a program manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading and collaborating with a geographically dispersed cross-discipline team of engineers and industry partners.
  • Integrated product team lead and/or cost account manager experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge in microelectronics and experience in managing the design and fabrication of microelectronic used in RF communication systems.
  • Strong working knowledge in field experiments and platform integration.
  • Experience with integrating commercial communications technologies for use in military operations.
  • Extensive experience in Subcontract management with respect to microelectronics design evaluations, gap/improvement identification, and articulation for concerning supplier’s shortcoming to achieve technical baseline.
  • Prior experience supporting government led spectrum approval, interim flight clearances (IFC), Interim Authorization To Test (IATT), Authority to Operate (ATO), ground node operations, and/or Cyber security requirements.
  • Strong working experience with government personnel and ability to take actions for customer resolution
  • Experience in integrating complex systems for Naval platforms and operations.
  • Experience demonstrating complex technical concepts to management, customers, and stakeholders with non- technical background.
  • Experience with Mission Engineering.
Salary Range: $147,700 - $221,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
