Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is looking for a Sr. Principal Crew Systems Responsible Engineer with experience in Oxygen Breathing Gas Systems in the Aerospace industry to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role is located in Melbourne, FL. This position is fully onsite with no remote work available.  Some travel will be required for this position.

In this role you will act as Responsible Engineer (RE), responsible for developing, modifying, and maintaining aircraft crew systems design configurations using current engineering practices and standards. The RE will be required to support any stage of the aircraft crew systems life cycle activity such as developing primary designs, maturing designs into a system of systems, working as a SMT (Supplier Management Team), supporting fielding of the system, supporting airworthiness activity, and supporting testing of the systems. The RE may be acting as the system architect or assisting the system architect in defining the high-level performance requirements as well as lower-level component requirements. The RE will have to interface with other Engineering disciplines, Management teams, and Customer to ensure coordinated for compliant designs.

Responsibilities may include evaluating and verifying requirements to ensure airworthiness criteria are met. The RE will perform source selection for components. The RE will use their engineering knowledge to define design and test requirements that are flowed down to the suppliers through procurement documents.  The RE is responsible for working with the supplier(s) to deliver products that meet the requirements and support the program schedule and cost targets. The RE may be required to attend or present at internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates. Selected candidates should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidates must be self-starters capable of flourishing in an environment with minimal direction. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Sr. Principal Aeronautical Engineer - Bachelor of Science (BS) in a related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a related STEM discipline and 6 years of relevant experience.

  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

  • Breathing Oxygen Systems design/architect/supplier experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)

  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Aircraft Crew Breathing Systems Using On-Board Oxygen Generating System design or supplier experience

  • Analysis of Oxygen System Performance and compliance with MIL-STD-3050

  • Experience with integration of cabinets, pallets, seats, electrical cabinets, etc.

  • Software tools experience with NX and/or CPLM

  • Experience writing/reviewing technical documents: SSOWs, SRDs, ICDs, SDRL reviews, etc.

Salary Range: $114,900 - $172,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
