Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an experienced Materials & Processes (M&P) Engineer specializing in metallics for airframe structures to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. Position is located in Melbourne, Florida. Key responsibilities: Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production metallics issues. Generates test plans & reports. Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. Perform drawing reviews to ensure M&P requirements are satisfied. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures. May travel to subcontractor locations. Basic Qualifications: Structural Engineer (Level 2) requires a minimum of a BS in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 2 years of experience to include a background in metallics for airframe structures OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline. Experience with metal fabrication and design on aircraft. Experience with repair processes for metal materials used in aerospace structures. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. Preferred Qualifications: Degree discipline in Materials Science or similar. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate in a team environment. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously. Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions. Experience with military specs and standards. Experience interfacing with a military customer.
