Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Principal Communications Engineer/Sr. Principal Communications Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future.  This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.

The Communications Engineer in this role will be responsible for one or more of the following:

  • Integration of airborne communications systems and components to enable real-time coordination and reliable communication between ground, air, space and naval forces

  • Requirements development, analysis, maturation and implementation

  • Design, analyze, configure, test, document and troubleshoot communications systems

  • Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams and specifications

  • Collaborate with engineers and program stakeholders to integrate voice, encryption and infrastructure subsystems to meet platform mission objectives

  • Technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers, including development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, system integration and test support

  • Perform informal and formal testing of subsystem requirements

A successful Communications Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams, consistently brings up concerns, issues and risks to program and technical leadership and holds the team to a high level of technical rigor.

Basic Qualifications:

Principal Communications Engineer (T03)

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 0 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance that is in-scope (granted or renewed within the last 6 years).

  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance (needed to start).

  • Experience with integration of COTS electronics into military systems

  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels

Basic Qualifications:

Sr. Principal Communications Engineer (T04)

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. AND 4 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance that is in-scope (granted or renewed within the last 6 years).

  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance (needed to start).

  • Experience with integration of COTS electronics into military systems

  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cryptographic implementations for airborne military communications subsystems

  • Experience with airborne communications infrastructure and equipment

  • Experience with voice, military and network waveforms

  • Experience with VoIP implementations, protocols and equipment.

  • Experience with aircraft intercommunication systems (ICS)

  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels

  • Experience with Earned Value Management

  • Experience with supplier/subcontract management

  • An active Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $92,600 - $139,000
Salary Range 2: $114,900 - $172,300
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
