Are you ready to set the pace as an expert problem solver? Â As a Healthcare Economics Associate you will be challenged to provide data-driven answers to the toughest problems facing the Medicare and Retirement line of business. The primary focus of the team is to identify, analyze, and explain medical and pharmacy trends. Â You will build and manipulate complex claims datasets to investigate root causes of medical and pharmacy trends. Â You will drive innovation by creating flexible, Excel-based models to support the ongoing identification of trend drivers and affordability opportunities. Advanced skills in SQL and Excel will be integral for day-to-day activities and being able to work in a fast-paced setting. Â Ultimately, the goal of our team is to use data to build a narrative and influence key business decisions.Â

Primary Responsibilities:
- Identify, analyze, and explain Medicare medical and pharmacy trends using claims-based analyses
- Construct polished MS Excel models to satisfy analytical requests, present complex data in ways others can understand
- Use SAS/SQL to construct claims-based datasets
- Anticipate questions from key stakeholders and consider all aspects of an analysis before completion
- Work mostly in a self-directed manner, take initiative on ideas to add value
- Provide ongoing, meaningful communications to managers on project status, results and conclusions from analyses

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or a related degree
- 2+ years of applicable experience in data analytics - examining and summarizing data to uncover insights
- 2+ years of experience in a corporate environment
- Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel (practical experience working with pivot tables, advanced formulas, graphs, vlookups)
- Intermediate SQL proficiency - aggregating data from multiple tables, experience working with large datasets, translating analytic needs into technical requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Healthcare claims (medical OR pharmacy) analytics experience
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $70,200 to $137,800 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
