The Pharmacist Intern Program is full-time, 40 hours per week for 10 weeks starting June 3, 2024.

 

UnitedHealthcare pharmacy (UHCP) provides health plan pharmacy coverage for more than 15 million Americans across the nation. As medication and treatment options become more expensive over time, UHCP is dedicated to keeping drug costs low while maintaining the highest level of quality for our members and providers.  Pharmacy interns will engage in projects to help support the UnitedHealthcare Pharmacy team. You will engage with directly with care providers, physicians, and office staff about upcoming Prescription Drug List (PDL) changes that may impact their patients.  You’ll have the chance to work with a matrix of other supporting teams, including analytics, PDL strategy, and clinical. This will give you an opportunity to observe how each of the teams collaborate and work together. Projects and responsibilities can also be added based on your areas of interest. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage directly with care providers, physicians, and office staff via phone calls and faxes
  • Document provider feedback and consult with senior clinical pharmacists if there are questions about treatment, drug efficacy, or authorization status
  • Shadow UHC pharmacists to gain a better understanding of the various roles they have within the UHCP team
  • Collaborate with analytics team to ensure outreach file is up to date
  • Work with individuals from the various pharmacy team to support affordability and quality initiatives
  • Create Quick Reference Guides on disease states for providers using clinical guidelines and primary literature
  • Work with the clinical team to review clinical programs, supply limits, and assess new to market and/or pipeline drugs
  • Ad hoc projects supporting the UHCP team

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy program, with first year completed before start of the internship
  • Active Licensure as a pharmacist intern in state of Minnesota
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)

 

Preferred Qualification:

  • 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Completion of at least one Therapeutics Course 
  • Solid understanding of medical and pharmacy terminology
  • Experience in retail or home delivery pharmacy settings
