As a Director Actuarial Services within UHC M&R, you will lead actuarial efforts in owning the development of key inputs supporting the Medicare Advantage bid process.  You will effectively perform data analysis, excel modeling and actuarial analytics while developing new processes and strengthening existing processes. You will have the opportunity to lead special projects in coordination with other functional teams across the broader organization.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Leader on team preparing and certifying Medicare Advantage bid filings for UHC
  • Owns end-to-end process in making key decisions on projects and directing junior staff
  • Assist in leading and managing team of actuaries and actuarial students of varying levels
  • Understand MA bid pricing and certify bids of various product types
  • Identify inefficiencies in processes or models and proactively take steps to implement changes
  • Develop trusted and effective relationships with leaders in other areas of the company that we support
  • Effectively define and manage deadlines for projects that help meet overall team goals
  • Present findings in clear, compelling manner to senior leadership to provide information needed for optimal decision-making
  • Take the lead on answering audit questions with CMS and consulting actuaries around assumptions for bid submissions
  • Understand underlying financials and general ledger and impact on MLR and Part C Reporting requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Credentialed actuary (FSA or ASA)
  • 10+ years of health care actuarial industry experience
  • Medicare Advantage pricing experience
  • Proven ability to create applicable data models and aggregate, review and analyze applicable data for various projects
  • Proven excellent communication skills: experience clearly articulating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and the ability to understand perspectives of multiple constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to identity, evaluate and recommend appropriate strategies

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic or higher level of proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)
