Port Engineer Job Summary
We are partnering with a leading maritime client to secure a Port Engineer for a 30-day contract assignment in Portland, Oregon. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will oversee the technical and operational aspects of large MARAD vessels in port and dry-dock. You will work closely with shipyard personnel, vessel Chief Engineers, Captains, and government agencies to ensure repairs, maintenance, and compliance with regulatory and operational standards.
Port Engineer Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight for vessel maintenance, repairs, and dry-dock operations.
- Coordinate with shipyard teams, contractors, and government representatives to execute work plans.
- Ensure compliance with MARAD, USCG, ABS, and other regulatory requirements.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for mechanical, electrical, and structural issues.
- Manage schedules, budgets, and quality control for all repair and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with vessel Chief Engineers and Captains to maintain operational readiness.
- Prepare and submit technical reports on vessel status, repairs, and regulatory inspections.
Port Engineer Position Requirements
- 3+ years of experience as a Port Engineer for large ocean-going vessels OR 5+ years of experience as a Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of MARAD vessels, government-operated ships, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing dry-dock operations, ship repairs, and technical maintenance.
- Ability to work effectively with shipyard personnel, regulatory agencies, and vessel crews.
- Security clearance (or eligibility) is preferred.
