Obstetrician/Gynecologist Hospitalist

As an Obstetrician/Gynecologist Hospitalist in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Alameda Health System (AHS), you will have the opportunity to:

  • Improve, iterate, and innovate on our maternity care and gynecologic services at Highland Hospital and our outpatient clinics;
  • Practice obstetrics and gynecology in a collaborative, supportive setting;

Description:

This is (up to) a 1.0 FTE position in our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, exact FTE to be negotiated. This role will report to the Department Chair.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide inpatient Labor and Delivery and acute GYN coverage in a Safety Net Healthcare system with a mission driven community of clinical providers.
  • Contribute to our broader team of passionate obstetrics and gynecology health experts in designating Alameda Health System as a leader in equitable, just, high value reproductive healthcare.
  • Participate in a collaborative, person-centered care model that is supported by our distinctions on California’s C-Section Honor Roll, Opioid Care Honor Roll, and as a Centering Pregnancy Approved site;
  • Train medical students from the University of California at San Francisco and residents from Kaiser Oakland Obstetrics and Gynecology to support their Obstetrics and Gynecology rotations;
  • Collaborate with a team of Certified Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners to support inpatient services.
  • Participate in the review of quality of patient care rendered in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology within the AHS quality assurance and performance improvement plans;
  • This role may also participate in GYN service attending weeks as well as home-based night and emergency backup on par with the physicians in our department.
  • Although the templated schedule for this role will adhere closely to the hours corresponding to the FTE allotted, as a member within this department, this individual may be called upon to contribute to service coverage needs to ensure patient safety, in line with all physicians in the department. This may mean that weekly hours may at times exceed allotted FTE, and this individual would be compensated for those hours per departmental standards (billed as extra hours)
  • An initial schedule will be put forth and can be reviewed and amended at the next quarter start to ensure that it is meeting the clinical requirements of the department as well as this individual.

SUMMARY: The Obstetrician/Gynecologist will provide clinical services in line with a broad obstetrics and gynecological scope of practice that includes inpatient Labor and Delivery coverage, inpatient gynecological service coverage (ER consults, emergency GYN surgery), gynecologic surgery, office obstetrics and gynecology, and women’s preventive care.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. 

1.  Contribute to our broader team of passionate obstetrics and gynecology health experts in designating Alameda Health System as a leader in equitable, just, high value reproductive healthcare.

2.  Participate in a collaborative, person-centered care model that is supported by our distinctions on California’s C-Section Honor Roll, Opioid Care Honor Roll, and as a Centering Pregnancy Approved site;

3.  Provide timely and quality surgical care to patients with gynecologic surgery needs, supported by subspecialists in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Urogynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology;

4.  Train medical students from the University of California at San Francisco and residents from Kaiser Oakland Obstetrics and Gynecology to support their Obstetrics and Gynecology rotations;

5.  Collaborate with a team of Certified Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners to support inpatient and outpatient services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) is required.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Current status as board-eligible or board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist

Required Licenses/Certifications: Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.
