Position Overview:

As a key member of our plant operations, the primary responsibility of theQuality Assurance Team Leaderwill be to lead, direct and coordinate the activities of a production team (approximately 100 team members) to achieve plant goals of safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping and meet all our customer requirements.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Develop and foster a culture where safety is the first priority.  Develop safety awareness through use of daily discussions, joint safety observations, safety audits, incident investigations, and preventative corrective actions. Provide technical support to plant management and manufacturing personnel in the application of statistical tools and problem-solving techniques. Evaluate and improve manufacturing quality, performance and capability.
  • Communicate to all team members the status of equipment, expectations of the team, current activities of the plant, task assignments, and all additional pertinent information.  Communicate to management all appropriate and required information.
  • Continuously evaluate team member job performance and provide feedback through informal verbal communications and formal performance appraisals. Counsels and/or recommends actions to improve performance.

  • Direct and indirect oversight of hourly and temporary personnel
  • Conduct daily meetings with temporary personnel to prepare team members for daily activities.
  • Maintain production reports, equipment data, manning reports, and all required administrative functions.
  • Continuously monitors the production process, production equipment, process control checks, and team member activities to ensure goals of quality and production are achieved. Assist in identifying production problems, participation in equipment troubleshooting, and discovering root causes of quality defects. Direct and coordinate team member resources in corrective actions to resolve production problems.  As needed, request additional support from plant experts or outside services in resolving problems.
  • Enforce and administer company policies, plant regulations, and plant norms.  Correct non-conformances through coaching, training, and/or discipline.
  • Safety–-Oversight of a specific parts of our safety program (e.g. STOP/SAFE, employee incentive program, etc.)
  • Food Safety—monitor and enforce compliance with food safety requirements.
  • Spoilage—daily collection and analysis of spoilage data, enhances data collection and lead corrective action teams to address spoilage issues. 
  • Performance-focus on individual machine performance (run times, faults, reliability, etc.) rather than the collective “group” approach. 
  • Dunnage—responsible for directing daily activities of temporary sorting team, overview of area and activities including yield analysis, customer return analysis, and continued 6S of area.
  • Training--develop and improve job specific training, focusing on training aids for higher turnover positions. Conduct orientation of new hires and temporary personnel.
  • Plant 6S coordinator--facilitate continued improvement, identify and formalize 6S action plans, record and share successes to stimulate similar successes.
  • Recycling—manage activities of plant recycling program
  • Quality—completion and distribution of COAs for customers
  • Investigate and recommend corrections to equipment that are not operating efficiently or according to manufacturing specifications.
  • Aid coordinator of supplier complaints, in addition to review of and development of corrective actions for customer complaints.
  • Participate in sampling and analysis needed for quality inspection, customer evaluation and supplier qualification.
  • Provide improvement advice to improve reliability and efficiency to can production.
  • Evaluate equipment in response to production issues and concerns.
  • Assist in the implementation and installation of equipment and equipment modifications.
  • Provide technical advice on material changes (i.e. light weighting, lacquer trials, BPANI, etc.)
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • 2-5 year’s experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing environment or 2 year Associate or Technical degree
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills (Verbal and Written).  Ability to conduct group presentation or confidential conversation
  • Good decision-making skills.  Ability to develop corrective action options, evaluate options, select and implement appropriate options. 
  • Demonstrated experience using computer (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to analyze statistical data.
  • Ability to assist in trouble shooting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements and safe working practices

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • AS400 (IBMi) and advanced computer skills (Access) preferred.
  • Six Sigma certification
