Northrop Grumman Aeronautic Systems is seeking an Aeronautical Engineering Manager 2 – Subsystems RE for the Palmdale Special Programs Vehicle Engineering organization, reporting to the Vehicle Engineering Department Manager in Palmdale, CA.
The section manager (SM) will lead a team of approximately 15 engineers. The VE organization provides responsible engineering support to a restricted program within the Strike Division. The team includes mechanisms, environment control systems, power systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, fire protection systems, vehicle management and electrical subsystems. The SM will be responsible for leading all managerial tasks relevant to this Vehicle Engineering team. The section manager will work 80% of their time in any one or multiple of the RE specialties listed above and as directed by the Vehicle Engineering program IPT Lead.
The manager will also be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and facilitating communications, tasking, scheduling, and technical reviews with each individual contributor’s execution lead in Palmdale, CA. For functional home room support, approximately 20% of the SM’s time will be focused on recruiting, staffing, retaining talent, weekly team meetings, bi-weekly 1:1 meetings, and holding performance review discussions. Supporting relevant VE Northrop Grumman Aeronautical Systems Community of Practice is expected.

Understanding of leadership versus management, and the responsibilities of both
Understanding systems engineering approach toward Subsystems Development and Systems Integration
Understanding the level of technical design and support required at different program phases
Understanding of Subsystems impacts to System performance, health, and maintenance
Understanding of Subsystems disciplines, skillsets, and levels within those disciplines, disciplines that the Subsystems RE will interface with, and Supplier RE’s (Supplier Specs and Supplier Management).
Understanding of Subsystems data analysis to support troubleshooting and subsystem integration
Understanding of Subsystems technical manual updates and coordination

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience OR a Master’s Degree with 6 years of related experience.
Demonstrated excellence in a vehicle engineering field of subsystem analysis.
Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a technical leadership/management role.
Experience with Staffing Forecasting.
Experience leading an engineering team within a fast-paced environment.
Experience with manufacturing and/or flight test processes.
Experience working Special Access Programs.
Top Secret Clearance.
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
