Job Overview

The Seasonal Operations Manager oversees the pre-season preparation and daily operations of Macy’s Santaland, while providing an on-site presence at the Herald Square store on behalf of Macy's Branded Entertainment.

 

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with the Branded Entertainment production operations team to oversee the physical renovations of Santaland, including receiving vendor deliveries and coordinating with store trades to schedule necessary updates.
  • Implement the onboarding process for the Santaland management team, including creating their training manual and scheduling their training sessions.
  • Assist in managing the Santaland management team, serving as the primary liaison between Santaland and Branded Entertainment.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed at Santaland and on location.
  • Demonstrate expertise in responsibly de-escalating and managing employee relations issues, as well as handling customer disputes and concerns.
  • Manage challenges with discretion, understanding the legal and ethical obligations to colleagues and the company.
  • Schedule and implement the elf training program; update the elf training manual, coordinate with the Santaland management team to plan the training schedule, and help lead the training.
  • Schedule and conduct Santa training; update the Santa training manual and lead the sessions.
  • Work with production operations to set up the Special Events calendar for the season, track new additions, and confirm staff assignments for each event.
  • Assist HR with the hiring and interview process.
  • Position staff according to operational needs.

 

Skills You Will Need

Event Operations Management: Experience in overseeing large-scale events, including pre-season preparation, daily operations, and coordination with various teams.

Employee Relations: Strong background in managing employee relations, with the ability to de-escalate conflicts and handle disputes with professionalism and discretion.

Interpersonal Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including management, vendors, and team members.

Leadership and Training: Proven ability to lead and manage teams, including creating and implementing training programs for seasonal staff.

Safety and Compliance: Understanding and enforcing safety guidelines, along with a strong sense of legal and ethical obligations to colleagues and the company.

Problem-Solving: Ability to manage challenges and issues with discretion, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to company policies.

Multitasking: Strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple responsibilities efficiently.

Organization and Planning: Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to plan and execute complex event operations and training schedules.

Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook for documentation, scheduling, and communication tasks.

Professionalism: Consistently presenting a positive, friendly, and enthusiastic demeanor, aligned with Macy’s brand values.

Independence and Initiative: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, taking initiative to drive projects and operations forward.

  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs. Working on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, as well as all weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas should be expected.
