About The Position

Wellhart is seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician for a locum tenens position at a hospital in Maine. This 34-day assignment begins on May 15, 2025, with potential for ongoing coverage starting July 1. The schedule includes both day shifts (6:30 AM - 6:15 PM) and night shifts (5:30 PM - 6:30 AM), with 8-12 night shifts from May 15 to June 12, and 18-20 night shifts from July 1 onwards. The role involves working in a trauma facility, managing a high-volume ED, including both emergency and clinic patients. The physician will perform general ED procedures, including intubation and ventilation management, and collaborate with APP support. This opportunity utilizes the T-System EMR and offers a chance for extension.

Job Responsibilities and Duties: 

• Provide emergency medical care in a Level III Trauma Facility 

• Manage a high-volume ED with approximately 20,000 annual patient visits 

• Perform general ED procedures, including intubation and ventilation management 

• Assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of emergency conditions 

• Collaborate with APP support and other healthcare professionals 

• Handle both emergency and clinic-based patient care 

• Conduct appropriate diagnostic tests and interpret results 

• Prescribe medications and treatments as needed 

• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records using the T-System EMR 

• Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures 

• Provide patient and family education on health conditions and treatment plans 

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives


Additional Information: 

• Must be board-certified/board-eligible in Emergency Medicine 

• Active Maine medical license required 

• Experience in high-volume emergency departments preferred 

• Comfort with varied shift schedules, including night shifts 

• Strong clinical decision-making and time management skills 

• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities 

• Flexibility to adapt to changing patient volumes and acuity levels
