Job Summary

Geisinger's Cancer Institute is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our cancer team in an outpatient role their new/future site Dickson City Cancer Center. The APP will be joining a team of physicians, experienced APPs as well as fellows in a dynamic outpatient environment. The optimal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as an APP in a cancer or adult medicine field (preferably in the inpatient setting), however less experienced candidates will be considered accordingly.This individual will perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. Assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. APP will ultimately be an advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between the patient and physician.Location: Living in Northeast PA offers convenient community living, a balanced professional career, and proximity to New York City, Harrisburg and Philadelphia.

Job Duties

  • Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.
  • Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.
  • Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
  • Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.
  • Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the physician assistant license.
  • Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
  • Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.
  • Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
